The Book of Eunoch
Ethiopia adopted Christianity in the 4th century AD, making it one of the oldest Christian nations on earth — predating most of Europe by several hundred years. The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church developed in near-complete isolation from Rome and Constantinople, preserving rites, liturgical languages and manuscript traditions that disappeared elsewhere centuries ago. These photographs document Coptic ceremonies in the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, where priests still read from Ge'ez scripture and conduct rituals largely unchanged since the medieval period.
